Frequently asked questions
- What is cost management in construction? Cost management is the process of planning, estimating, monitoring and controlling project costs from inception to final account, so the project is delivered within budget and changes are understood before they are committed.
- What evidence is needed to support a construction claim? Strong claims rely on contemporaneous records: notices, programmes, site diaries, correspondence, labour and plant records, and cost data that link the cause of the event to its effect on time and money.
- How long does adjudication take in the UK? Under the Construction Act, an adjudicator must normally reach a decision within 28 days of the referral, which can be extended by 14 days with the referring party's consent, or longer if both parties agree.
- What is a final account? The final account is the agreed total sum payable under the contract, including the original price adjusted for variations, compensation events, fluctuations and any agreed claims.
