Frequently asked questions
- Which NEC4 main option should I choose? It depends on how risk should be shared. Option A (priced contract with activity schedule) places most cost risk on the Contractor, Options C and D (target contracts) share it, and Option E (cost reimbursable) leaves it largely with the Client.
- What is a procurement strategy? A procurement strategy sets out how a project will be bought: the contract form, payment mechanism, tender route, packaging of work and evaluation approach, aligned to the client's objectives and risk appetite.
- Why use an independent commercial adviser? An independent adviser gives objective, experienced advice without a stake in the outcome, helping you avoid costly contract choices and benchmark against industry best practice.
